Put These Content Trends On Your Radar for 2027

Be the life of the party with pieces and campaigns that engage audiences with intentional creative considerations.

It’s the final stretch before the holidays. Before the office goes quiet with a skeleton crew on Slack around the end of the year, now’s the perfect time to start planning for Q1 content. This is my favorite time of the year for content—it’s a balance of staying in a publishing flow through the holiday break while looking ahead to what you want to introduce in 2027.

Analog, community-enriched platforms, and visual wow’s are all considerations for winning creativity. If you’re building your 2027 content strategy and you’re a small- to medium-sized business that needs to maximize every minute you spend on your precious marketing resources, this is for you.

Trend 1: Human-Made & Analog

Just a few years ago, everything was written with human voices. Now, we’re awash in generative AI writing and imagery. AI and algorithms are a fixture in almost every digitally connected experience via a screen or otherwise. And while it may have been delightful-uncanny to watch fluffy cats eating ramen in the early days of AI slop and be surprised by how easy technology made things, it has slid down a slippery slope to consumers distrusting AI and its seeming lack of data boundaries.

People are craving a simpler life with more enriched relationships IRL. The Star Tribune recently covered the analog renaissance like ”simpler phones, physical media, and tactile hobbies.” Mahjong is surging in popularity. Those who proclaimed reading dead may not have seen the new numbers from publishers.

“Google search data show a 5,000% increase year over year in queries for ‘analog hobbies’—like knitting or playing an instrument–and an 850% increase in searches for ‘offline living’ relative to other prompts on the search engine.” - Star Tribune

Content takeaway: Be a little messy and definitely authentic. Write with a wink-and-a-nod. Consider sending your customers snail mail. If you’re pitching, send a print media kit with your press release.

Trend 2: Niche Participation on Social Platforms

Newsletters are like a little VIP love note to a client, friend, or reader. Platforms such as Substack and Beehiiv help you build readership and establish a publishing pace. Plus, you get feed customization and community-building bonuses. Great for thought leadership and cozy, in-depth chats.

Content first with a network effect. Build your cheering section and find a niche community. There’s also an experimental, roll-up-your-sleeves vibe that is compelling, which reminds me of the early days of the internet when awesomely bad-quality WordPress blog posts reigned. Everyone was an aspiring street reporter/photographer—content had heart.

Content takeaway: Pick a platform and build a presence. Start a low-lift, consistent publishing cadence like a short weekly newsletter/round-up from your industry/niche. Then add daily networking: 1-2 reposts with comments, short, quippy updates, and engaging with people who comment on your posts/profile activity.

Trend 3: Engage via Creator Collaboration

I’m calling it now, 2027 is the year of the group project. Collaboration and cross-promotion give each piece extra optimization. With all the co-creation features Substack has recently rolled out, this could look like a co-authored post, a live session/Q&A, recommendations, and lists.

Content takeaway: Research 5-10 creators/writers/founders/business owners that are adjacent to your topics and share an overlap of audience demographics. Reach out to start something like a co-authored article or a Q&A where they are the featured expert.

Once the content piece is live, co-promote and reuse content snippets and quotes across socials, website, and blogs—like the old NPR phrase, “Create Once, Publish Everywhere.” Get extra mileage from this collaboration, then plan the sequel or find another collaborator.

Trend 4: More Is More With High Visual Experiences

For business branding, narrative maximalism hit its stride this year. Burnout from algorithmic curation and stark minimalism triggered customer-journey whiplash. There is a craving for warmth. This can mean recalibration or leaning into more tactile experiences that are visually exciting, nostalgic, or sensory-driven.

Consider how you can add a little zhuzh to your blog post or email newsletter and then carry the aesthetic across your other content points.

Content takeaway: Extend your brand experience across content pieces and the user journey, and consider how to personalize each touchpoint. For entrepreneurs on a budget, you can buy aesthetic branding packs on Etsy from different graphic designer creators; these done-for-you templates are easy to edit and customize in Canva. Saves time and looks professional/fun/fancy!

It’s awesome to be aspirational! These content trends point to rewards around renewed creativity and authenticity. Don’t be afraid to bring something fresh, new, and uniquely your brand to your customer’s digital content experience. Be memorable and connect with other creators and niche communities—restraint is for 2026, narrative maximalism is for 2027.
